Location is everything to the Southwest area residents. The region has three METRO stations and is walking distance to many of D.C.’s most popular landmarks. Visitors and residents can spend days just exploring the local museums, from the National Gallery of Art to the National Air and Space Museum. Other options include Hirshorn Museum and Sculpture Gallery, United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and National Museum of African Art. For everyday fun, residents can take a harbor cruise, visit the Main Ave. Fish Market, see a show, or relax among the cherry trees at East Potomac Park. Arena Stage on Sixth Street hosts live artistic performances and promotes art appreciation. Arena Stage has the distinction of being one of the country’s earliest not-for-profit theaters. East Potomac Park features paths for walking, jogging and bicycling, plus a golf course and tennis center. Public education in Washington, D.C. is provided by District of Columbia Public Schools. The school district runs more than 170 campuses, serving 62,000 students. Campuses located within Cluster 9 include Amidon Elementary School, Bowen Elementary School and Jefferson Junior High. These three schools have a combined enrollment of about 1,400.
