Buzzard Point, Southwest Waterfront & Southwest Employment Area
Real Estate & Homes for Sale in Washington, D.C.

In the southwestern quadrant of Washington, DC, there is a diverse group of neighborhoods representing a combination of residential, commercial, military and cultural interests. Known as DC’s Neighborhood Cluster 9, the region includes Buzzard Point, Southwest Waterfront and the Southwest Employment Area and is home to Ft. McNair, an Army post that’s been a part of this community for over 200 years, third only to West Point and Carlisle Barracks in length of service.

Cluster 9 is situated along the Washington Channel directly across from East Potomac Park and Golf Course, just south of the National Mall. Buzzard Point is an area that’s in the process of defining its modern identity. Redevelopment has led to the construction of commercial buildings, though residential developers have expressed interest as well. Southwest Employment Area is the region between Interstate 395 and the National Mall. Here, visitors will find many landmarks, including the Smithsonian museums and several federal office buildings. Most of the residential streets of Cluster 9 are concentrated south of Interstate 395 in the region known as Southwest Waterfront. As one of the oldest parts of DC, this community has undergone many ups and downs throughout its long history. Today’s Southwest Waterfront is undergoing a huge transformation with several projects underway that include a new Waterfront Mall, a major renovation of the famous Arena Stage and the much anticipated Waterfront Harbor project which is expected to break ground in 2012 as part of the SW Redevelopment Project.
